International audienceThis article presents how a survey method based on pedestrian movement helps to understand the individual and collective representations associated to a neighborhood by its inhabitants.In order to grasp the meaning of the word “neighborhood” for those who live in it, we ask them to make us visit their neighborhood. We leave them free to define route, duration and conversation topics. We record their speeches with a microphone and the route with a GPS. The method serves three purposes: it allows to enter the “lived” dimensions of the space, it causes sensitive reactivation that prompts the mobilization of representations and it obliges the respondents to think about their experience of their daily environment.
