Znf3 is not a transcriptional target of the MAPK signaling cascade or Mat2.

<p>Wild type XL280α, <i>mat2</i>Δ, and <i>znf3</i>Δ mutants were transformed with the P<i>_GPD1</i>-<i>ZNF3</i> transgene, and a <i>znf3</i>Δ mutant was transformed with the P<i>_GPD1</i>-<i>MAT2</i> transgene. The cells were incubated on V8 medium for 14 days in the dark. The <i>ZNF3</i> overexpression allele moderately increased hyphal development in the wild type and restored unisexual reproduction in the <i>znf3</i>Δ mutant; however, it failed to suppress the sterile phenotype of <i>mat2</i>Δ mutants. Similarly, the <i>MAT2</i> overexpression allele failed to restore hyphal development of the <i>znf3</i>Δ mutant. The scale bar represents 100 µm.
