<p><i>S. aureus</i> strain MTH157 (<i>recA</i>::<i>lacZ</i>) was grown exponentially in LB medium at 37°C. At an optical density OD<sub>600</sub> = 0.1, Mitomycin C or Peptides III-5/III-6 were added to final concentrations of 2 μg/ml or 50 μg/ml, respectively. At the times indicated, samples were taken and the level of β-galactosidase determined (<a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0072273#s4" target="_blank">Materials and Methods</a>).</p
