<p>Two weeks after partial ligation of the left CCA, carotid plaque size (oil red O-stained red area) was non-significantly smaller in the representative ApoE-/- mouse fed on a western diet with LiCl (PWL) or atorvastatin (PWA) treatment vs. the animal without treatment (PW) (A). This is corroborated by the quantitative data (B). In the aortic arch (C, Masson’s trichrome staining), plaque size is significantly smaller in the treated animals (blue arrow-heads) than in the control (blue arrow). Quantitative data (D) again corroborate the findings. Statistically significant p values from Mann-Whitney tests are provided. Scale-bars, 100 µm.</p
