<p>This figure shows the apparatus used for investigating the attenuation of beta radiation with the Timepix hybrid silicon pixel detector and a radioactive source. The source used here is a Strontium-90 source manufactured by Philip Harris Ltd. The source is held in place with the perspex source mount and base board from the Panax Equipment Ltd. Demonstration Kit (type no. SK107B). The Timepix hybrid silicon pixel detector [1,2] in its CERN@school Mk1 casing also rests on the base board, and is held in place with a clamp fixed to a retort stand.
