Impaired 5C-CPT performance during initial hours of EtOH abstinence.

<p>In a test performed 3 h into EtOH abstinence using familiar task conditions EtOH-exposed rats (n = 16) failed to respond to nearly half of the presented trials (<b>panel A</b>), took longer to elicit correct responses in Go trials (<b>panel D</b>), exhibited diminished discrimination between Go and NoGo trials (<b>panel G</b>) and a diminished tendency to respond (<b>panel H</b>) as compared with EtOH-naïve CON animals (n = 17), suggesting an impairment in the ability to perform the task. The lack of group differences in the percentage of correct responses in Go trials (<b>panel B</b>), false alarm latency (<b>panel E</b>) or the latency to retrieve the food rewards (<b>F</b>) suggests an equal capacity to “solve” the 5C-CPT task and a similar motivation to do so. There were no group differences in motor impulsivity (premature responses, <b>I</b>) or behavioral restraint (false alarms, <b>panel C</b>) at this abstinence time.
