The Laboratory-based Enteric Disease Surveillance (LEDS) system contributes to the understanding of human salmonellosis in the United States by collecting reports of isolates from laboratory-confirmed infections1 submitted by state public health laboratories. Reporting to LEDS is voluntary; the number of states submitting reports varies somewhat from year to year, although almost all states report every year.
