El tema químico de ácido-base es uno de los más antiguos en cursos de química general y ha estado casi continuamente en el debate académico. El propósito central de documentar los conocimientos y las creencias de un grupo de 10 maestros mexicanos con experiencia en la enseñanza de la química ácido-base en la escuela secundaria era saber cómo diseñar, preparar y organizar sus clases dentro y fuera del aula, a partir de desarrollar un conjunto de secuencias de enseñanza-aprendizaje, esencialmente para capacitar a nuevos maestros.
