The development of new integrated pest management (IPM) strategies was the subject of a CTA seminar held in the Dominican Republic in November 1993. Participants assessed research on modern, integrated approaches to the management of the most serious pests of the crops of the small-scale Caribbean farmer, and they considered some of the alternative strategies that farmers may be able to adopt in the future. The workshop focused largely on the management of thrips (Thrips palm'), whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci) and aphids (particularly Toxoptera citricidus) and the diseases they carry, including citrus tristeza virus.
