Forestry news

In February 1991 the UK Tropical Forestry Forum was officially launched. Its objective is principally to strengthen the coherence and effectiveness of British-based action in support of the sustainable utilization and conservation of tropical rainforests. The Forum works closely with other bodies whose concern is with the preservation of rainforests: IUCN the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED)and the FAO's Tropical Forestry Action Plan, amongst others. The activities and meetings of these major organizations and of the Forum itself are reported in UK Tropical Forum News the first edition of which appeared in August. This covers the launch, mandate, and activities of the Forum as well as providing news from around the world about the rainforests.
