In February 1991 the UK Tropical Forestry Forum was officially launched. Its objective is principally to strengthen the coherence and effectiveness of British-based action in support of the sustainable utilization and conservation of tropical rainforests. The Forum works closely with other bodies whose concern is with the preservation of rainforests: IUCN the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED)and the FAO's Tropical Forestry Action Plan, amongst others.
