The aim of this article is to analyse the manifestations of the figure of Tezcatlipoca and related myths in the 20th and 21st century Mexican literature. One of the principal deities in the Aztec mythology, the omnipresent and omnipotent god of war, able to understand the secrets of human beings and reveal their destiny, Tezcatlipoca reappears in contemporary fiction with all of his rich symbolism. The reformulation of his image, however, is embedded into a new culture, outside its original context.
