At the end of the 1990s and especially from the start of the 2000s, new forms of a popular economy developed in France and in Europe in general: informal street-market economies where face-to-face relations and a shared otherness prevail. The Parisian flea markets are examples of the precarious conditions in which they emerge and their potential to act as a socializing dynamic, insofar as they provide opportunities of re-socialization for those who are excluded from the formal economy and/or have lost their attachment to work, friends or family.
