Add to ORKGAs a summary of a lecture given to Spanish and Latin-American librarians in Cologne, the author explains current developments of virtual and digital libraries in Germany. Several examples from virtual libraries illustrate initiatives of academic libraries for their local users and formational purposes. Unlike virtual libraries, digital libraries do not just offer links to electronic information, but also provide (or edit) digitalized versions of library stock (for example rare books or thesis). Regional gateways are shown offering search forms for both information of bibliographic databases and full texts and activities of German centers of retro-digitalization are being described
