PEMANFAATAN PASIR BESI (IRON SAND)SEBAGAI FILLER PADA CAMPURAN LASTON WEARING COURSE (AC-WC)

The construction material on hand of the road that is to fullfil requirements of technique specification is one of the successful factor of road reconstruction. It is aggregate. Besides that, other material that can be add into asphalt mixture can formed as the filler. It has the functions as filler material of iron sand and it can be used to mine material which is has given alternative chance as material mixture of asphalt. Because the iron sand was founded in Indonesia region. In this case, the researcher use iron sand as filler in asphlat mixture. This research’s purpose are to find out physical characterictics of iron sand as the filler and to find out the characterictics value of Marshall with use iron sand as the filler with 2x75 and 2x400 collision, durability and permeability in dry and soaked conditions. The first steps was resulted the optimal asphalt standard for dry and soaked conditions are 5,8 percent. In second steps, with asphalt standard 5,8 percent and filler 100 % iron sand got the stability value was 2146,4 kg, MQ value was 713,6 kg/mm and VIM value was 4,8 %. Besides, for filler 100 % cement the stability value was 2584,1 kg, MQ value was 736,2 kg/mm and VIM value was 4,76 %. Phase III trials conducted Marshall Refusal Density (2x400 collision) with the results in dry and soaked conditions obtained the highest stability value was 2870,8 kg, MQ value was 932,3 and VIM value was 3,4 % with the filler 100 % iron sand, whereas for the filler 100 % cement the highest stability value was 3398,7 kg, MQ value was 1168,3 kg/mm and VIM value was 3,3 %. The minimum gradient of the percentages of stability by filler cement. It indicates that filler cement had good durability. Durability (longevity) in the mixture are shown in a mixture with 100% filler content of portland cement. The flatness of 100% iron sand filler and 100% cement occurred on day 1 to day 5. And on the 7th day, the percentages of stability decreased far enough, 100% - 77.06% = 22.94%, with final stability value for 2468 kg of cement and 100% - 73.89% = 26.11%, with final stability value for 1873 kg of iron sand. Permeability in the mixture ACWC with the result in dry and soaked conditions obtained the minimum permeability with the combination of 100 % iron sand, whereas for the maximum permeability of 100 %cement. It indicates that filler iron sand can be used as an alternative materials of fine aggregate in asphalt mixture of ACWC better than filler cement
