IDENTIFIERS *Developmental Disabilities Councils

The booklet examines approaches in public awareness that may be used by Developmental Disabilities (DD) Councils. The eight chapters are explained to be an outgrowth of a'national meeting' of DD ' Councils. L. WiSeman, in "Beyond the Sixty-SecondiSolution," suggests that political action should be thought of as a public awareness resource, and that measurement of public awareness programs is essential. In "Public Awareness as a Developmental Disability, " G. Richman and P. Trohanis review, stumbling blocks as well as successful approaches to effective'public awareness efforts. Public awareness skill is the subject of thiee chapters: "Media Relations--Making DD News " by M. Galant and T. Knox; "More with Less " by D.'Prince; and "Public Service Announcements for Radio and Televisibn " by B. L. Cohen and G., Ackerman. Examples of public awareness activities are desCribed in the final three papers: "Advocating Before the State Legislature " by D. Weber; "Dental Services for Handicapped Citizens" by L.
