MEETINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SEMOLOGY AND PHYSICS OF THE EARTH'S INTERIOR

incorporated into its work the broed field of the Physics of the Interior of the Barth. The Tenth General Assembly which I attended was the first meeting which considered the wider scope of the Association. Several resulta of this enlargement ware evident at the meeting, especially the character of the programs of joint sessions and in the numbers in attendance at individual sessions. This International Association incorporates the activities of two sections of the American Geophysical Union, the Section of Seismology, and the Section of Tectonophysics. Banco the United Stater had co-delegaten for this Association, Dr. Louis B. Slichter and myaelf. The Rome meeting was a very large auccess from several considerations. I should like to briefly indicate some of the proceedings. Business of the Associatio; As are many organizations, the International Association is faced with the financial prob-lems of rising coats and instability of income. The Association carries on two permanent ser-vices: publication of the International Seismological Summary (15S) and the International Bulletins of the Central Bureau at Strasbourg, France (BCIS).
