OBJECTIVE—To examine whether the inflammatory phenotype found in obese and diabetic individuals is preserved in isolated, cultured myocytes and to assess the effectiveness of pharmaco-logical AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation upon the attenuation of inflammation in these myocytes.
