This paper deals with comparative studies on the levels of alkaline phosphatase, the presence of bone phosphatase as measured electro-phoretically, and levels of S'-nucleotidase, as measured in the presence of phenylphosphate in sera of patients suffering from bone me-tastases. Secondly, the levels of 5'-nucleotidase and other serum enzymes were studied in cancer patients during various kinds of therapy. A classification of serum enzymes is proposed, based on their preferential response to either liver metastases or toxic liver injury or both.
