Rice University track runner Robyn Bryant Reed

After graduating from San Antonio Holmes High School, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Bryant earned an immediate place on Victor Lopez’ women’s track team, joining the 1987 Southwest Conference indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay champions and earning her first NCAA all-America honors with Tanya McIntosh, Maureen Stewart and Tammy Welch on the 4x400 meter relay team at the NCAA championships. The indoor relay team set a SWC indoor record at the time. She was a key member of the 1989 mile relay team that won the conference championship at Waco in 1989 in an exceptional time of 3:35.45. She earned a total of four all-America honors. Roby continued her running individually, with a best of 53.63 in the 400 meters, number two on the Rice all-time list at the time, plus a leg on the then Rice best 4x100 meter time of 44.90 in 1990, winning the honors at the NCAA outdoor championships with Mary McCoy, Lila Washington and Desiree Woods. A 1990 GTE/Cosida academic all-America, she also was selected to the GTE/CoSIDA academic all-district teams in 1988, ’89 and ’90 and the SWC academic honor team in 1988 and ’89.Rice University Athletic Hall of Fam
