Early exploratory wells drilled in Arizona prior to 1948 recorded limited, and in many cases, misleading data. The later wildcatting phase, starting about 1948, has produced much reliable data, but these exploratory tests are thinly scattered over a very large area. Present exploration in Arizona is on a regional basis with local areas of interest being detailed. This paper, with the accompanying exhibits, is in-tended to point out some of the stratigraphic and structural problems. Data for this study are based upon an evaluation of lithological, electrical and radioactivity logs, and sur-face studies on a regional basis, although writers have had occasion to detail many local areas throughout north-ern Arizona.
