Abstract : The Plan de Tueda Natural Reserve, covering an area of 600 hectares, is located in the French department of Savoie, near the ski resort of Meribel. It contains the most extensive stands of cembro pines in the northern French Alps. In some areas the stands contain only pines, while in others the pines are mixed with spruce. The reserve also contains several rare or endangered plants, including the Linnaea boreal. The history of land use since 1730 has been retraced and mapped using old land registers and aerial photos (dating from 1939).
