Studies on the relations between fertility, breast-feeding and infant mortality have developed over recent years, chiefly as a result of multi-round surveys. From the data of a survey of this type carried out in Salum (Senegal), we attempt to demonstrate possible differences by ethnic group or caste within a population living in the same region (less than 500 sq.km.).
