Background: Screening for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) is a basic tool in the serological work-up of systemic rheumatic disorders. Despite the emergence of alternative screening methods and the difficulties in standardization, indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) remains the recommended method for ANA detection.
