Abstract

Tese de doutoramento em Ciências (área de especialiação em Biologia)Entomopathogenic fungi (EF) are nowadays considered one of the most promising alternatives to chemical pesticides. The use of fungal species or strains recovered from and adapted to a specific environment and host will increase the chances of success of biocontrol measures. In this work, we focused on one of the major pests affecting the olive culture, the lepidopteran Prays oleae Bern. A revision of available knowledge on entomopathogenic fungi is presented, focusing on their ecology and environmental factors that affected their occurrence, abundance and diversity. The infection mechanism is also addressed, as well as the enzymes and toxins related to both insect i...
