A FORMA DA TERRA: UM PERCURSO INVESTIGATIVO SOBRE AS EVIDÊNCIAS DA ESFERICIDADE DA TERRA COM ESTUDANTES DOS ANOS FINAIS DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL

The antiscience narratives have spread lately in different media. The flat-earth movement, one of these narratives, is a conspiracy and negationist movement that has been organized and spread in virtual environment, and their main characteristics are the science negationism and the attack on science education. The Brazilian national curriculum and the curriculum of Distrito Federal predicts the study of the Earth’s shape and the scientific evidences that proves the geoid shape in elementary school. In this context, this research analyzed the application of an investigative teaching sequence with 6th grade students of a public elementary school in Distrito Federal - Brazil with the goal of investigating the evidence of the Earth’s shape and illustrating them through the elaboration of didactic models. Although most students (80%) consider the Earth's shape spherical, most of them couldn’t justify it (65%) before the investigative sequence. Despite the limitations due from the Covid-19 pandemic in the educational context, the students produced didactic models with accessible supplies to illustrate the scientific evidences of the Earth’s shape previously investigated and discussed in class.They were also able to identify evidences from the geoid shape of Earth and the contradictions of the flat-earth movement. Therefore, this investigative teaching sequence proved to be an important didactic strategy to investigate Earth’s shape in the school environment through the development of argumentative practices that deconstructs scientific denialism, minimizing its damage to society as a final social practice. O terraplanismo, uma dessas narrativas, é um movimento conspiratório e negacionista que tem se difundido em ambientes virtuais e possui como principais características a negação à ciência e o ataque ao ensino de ciências. A BNCC e o currículo do Distrito Federal prevêem o estudo da forma da Terra e das evidências científicas que corroboram a sua forma geóide no ensino fundamental. Nesse contexto, esta pesquisa analisou a aplicação de uma sequência de ensino investigativo com estudantes do 6º ano do ensino fundamental de uma escola pública do Distrito Federal com o objetivo de investigar as evidências da forma da Terra e ilustrá-las por meio da elaboração de modelos didáticos. Embora a maior parte dos estudantes (80%) considere o formato esférico da Terra, a maioria não conseguiu justificá-la (65%) antes da sequência investigativa. Apesar das limitações decorrentes da pandemia de Covid-19 no contexto escolar, os estudantes produziram modelos didáticos com materiais de fácil acesso para ilustrar as evidências científicas da forma da Terra investigadas e discutidas previamente na aula e foram capazes de identificar as evidências da forma geóide do planeta e as incoerências do terraplanismo. Portanto, a sequência de ensino investigativo proposta mostrou ser uma importante estratégia didática para investigar a forma da Terra no ambiente escolar por meio do desenvolvimento de práticas argumentativas que desconstruam o negacionismo científico, minimizando seus danos à sociedade como prática social final.
