Cyclodipeptides and their complex derivatives, the diketopiperazines (DKPs), constitute a large class of natural products with diverse and noteworthy pharmacological activities observed for many naturally occurring DKPs. A promising approach to generate diverse DKPs is to study and manipulate DKP biosynthetic pathways. Cyclodipeptide synthases (CDPSs) constitute an enzyme family dedicated to the synthesis of cyclodipeptides, with the particularity to use aminoacylated-tRNAs (AA-tRNAs) as substrates.
