Motivations and criteria to publish scientific articles

This article analyses the informational behaviour of the researchers from PPGGO - UFRGS focused on the criteria and motivations for publishing articles in scientific journals. The study shows a mixed, qualitative-quantitative research, with the application of a questionnaire with the researchers from PPGGO. It lays down criteria for the search, selection and use of information for publication purposes. It lists the most used journals for publications by researchers of the field. It concludes that both the criteria that condition the search for information in relation to the choice of the scientific journal in which to publish the article and what is taken into account in the selection of scientific channels are mainly based on the impact factor of the journal, in the CAPES Qualis table and in the journal's theme. It also stresses the importance of international journals, especially those written in English. It observes as to the motivations for publication of articles that the most important items deal with the academic recognition coming from the publication, the possibility of being cited by other authors and the subject being of their interest and focus.Analisa o comportamento informacional dos pesquisadores do PGGO – UFRGS focado nos critérios e motivações para a publicação de artigos em periódicos científicos. Apresenta pesquisa mista, quali-quantitativa, com a aplicação de um questionário junto aos pesquisadores do PPGGO. Arrola os critérios de busca, seleção e uso da informação que tenham por objetivo a publicação. Categoriza as motivações dos pesquisadores no momento da publicação de artigos em periódicos científicos. Lista os periódicos mais utilizados para publicação pelos pesquisadores da área. Conclui que tanto os critérios que condicionam a busca de informação em relação à escolha do periódico científico a ser publicado o artigo quanto o que é levado em consideração na seleção dos canais científicos, calcam-se principalmente no Fator de Impacto do periódico, na Tabela Qualis da CAPES e na temática do periódico. Ressalta, também, a importância aferida aos periódicos internacionais, principalmente aos escritos em língua inglesa. Observa as motivações para publicação de artigos que os itens mais importantes versam sobre o reconhecimento acadêmico advindo da publicação, a possibilidade de ser citado por outros autores e o tema ser de seu interesse e enfoque
