LectureSea Water Lift (SWL) Pumps are applied in offshore units for cooling and fire water services. The specification of the SWL pump operating conditions is an iterative process where proper alignment between the supplier and the detailed engineering contractor should be achieved. This paper explains the design criteria for pump selection and elaborates on the methods to determine various pump operating characteristics such as the pump submergence/ suction level requirement, total dynamic head (TDH) and maximum allowable shut-off head. The aim of this paper is to provide a description of the workflow that should be followed during the project execution. Specifying numerical values for design criteria is not the intent of this paper, as these are project dependent, although examples are given for illustration purpose
