Dear Johnson: Many thanks for yours of the 24th. I understand adefinite statement about the naming of one of the forest reserves for General John Bidwell is on the way, and I shall be very glad indeed to take it up when it comes. I will call the attention of the right man to the need of an investigation of cutting by the Sierra Lumber and Flume Company, as you suggest. Many thanks for the pointer. The Attorney General has not yet officially decided about the Yosemite Valley. I understand when he does it will be to the effect that the Valley has not been accepted by the Government.The House Committee on Appropriations definitely cut out the wording which was intended to do so, on the ground that they did not have sufficient information about what it meant.Undoubtedly the Valley will be accepted next fall.
