Teaching lingua franca English – teaching the impossible?

Artykuł omawia problematykę wykorzystania odmiany języka angielskiego, znanej jako lingua franca English (LFE), podczas działań pedagogicznych w klasie językowej. W jego pierwszej części wskazano na to, że nauka języka nie może przebiegać w sposób narzucający uczestnikom zajęć sztywne zewnętrzne formy postępowania, głównie dlatego, że taki sposób organizacji procesu dydaktycznego wyraźnie zaciemnia cel końcowy nauki języka. W następnej części artykułu przedstawiono zakres badań nad LFE oraz szereg dylematów badawczych, które w dalszym ciągu oczekują na rozwiązanie. Na podstawie wskazanego podejścia dydaktycznego stwierdzono, że traktowanie nauki języka obcego jako lingua franca, nie zaś jako języka obcego sensu stricto stanowić może dla ucznia (oraz często nauczyciela) skuteczną pomoc podczas wspólnych wysiłków prowadzących do skutecznej nauki L2.The paper discusses the use of the English language as lingua franca English (LFE), in pedagogical activities in the language class. The first part outlines our stance that language learning cannot take place in a way that impels participants to rigidly conduct external forms, mainly because this way of organizing the didactic process clearly obscures the end goal of language learning. In the next part of the paper the scope of LFE research and a number of research dilemmas that still await solutions are pointed out.
