The European Union and Latin America: getting closer

Las relaciones entre la Unión Europea y América Latina se han desarrollado en un entorno ágil y fructífero. En el mes de junio próximo una Cumbre de 48 jefes de Estado o Gobierno y representantes de la Comisión Europea, se reunirán por primera vez, en la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro, con el objetivo de estrechar las relaciones entre Europa y América Latina y el Caribe, renovar iniciativas de cooperación, fortalecer el diálogo político y expandir las relaciones económico-comerciales entre las dos regiones. En este artículo el Jefe de la Delegación en Argentina de la Unión Europea se refiere a este tema haciendo especial hincapié en las relaciones entre la UE y el MERCOSUR.The relations between the European Union and Latin America have dynamically developed. Next June fourty-eight heads of state and government and representatives of the European Commission will meet in a Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The aim of this meeting will be manifold : to strengthen the relations between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean region, to reinforce co-operation initiatives, to foster political dialogue and to expand economic and trading relations between the regions. In this article, the Chief of the Argentine Delegation in the European Union makes reference to the summit, laying special emphasis on the relations between the European Union and the MERCOSUR.Instituto de Relaciones Internacionale
