Abstract

ABSTRAK Using a historical approach, the author explores some empirical evidence of the economic system worldwide since the XVI century. In case of Indonesia, the "national" economy was running independently during the Majapahit era. Later on, mercantilism by European companies such as VOC dominated the economic system for 15 centuries. In 1870, an Agrarian Law was implemented by the Dutch colonial Government. in Hindia Belanda (Indonesia), which was highly accommodating to U.K. and U.S. foreign investment. This, then, was the first foreign investment law to w. be applied in Indonesian economic history, rather than the I 967 Law under New Order in the modern economy a century letter.
