Stormwater management in the municipal planning process

Denne masteroppgaven tar for seg hvordan overvann og flom fra elver håndteres i den kommunale planprosessen, utenfor byer og tettbebygde strøk. Klimaendringene blir stadig mer synlige verden over, og anses som en av de største globale utfordringene vi står overfor i dag. Grunnet klimaendringene er det i Norge forventet en markant nedbørsøkning frem mot århundreskiftet. Generelt for hele Norge er det estimert en nedbørsøkning på opp mot 30 prosent, i tillegg til at ekstremvær vil forekomme hyppigere over hele landet. Det ventes i tillegg en kraftig befolkningsvekst og økende urbanisering i tiden fremover, noe som vil medføre en økning av tette flater til utbygging og infrastruktur. Mange steder er vann- og avløpsledningene allerede underdimensjonerte for å takle et klima i endring. Den økende nedbørsmengden og befolkningsveksten vil føre med seg store utfordringer tilknyttet flom og overvann i fremtiden.This master thesis deals with how stormwater and river floods are handled in the municipal planning process, outside towns and densely populated areas. Climate change is becoming increasingly visible worldwide and is considered one of the biggest global challenges we face today. Due to climate change, Norway expects a marked increase in precipitation until the turn of the century. Generally, for Norway as a whole, a precipitation increase is estimated to be up 30 per cent, as well as extreme weather will occur more frequently throughout the country. In addition, strong population growth and rising urbanization are expected in the future, which will lead to an increase in densely populated areas for development and infrastructure. In many places, the water and drainage pipes are already under-dimensioned to cope with a changing climate. The increasing rainfall and population growth will bring major challenges associated with flooding and stormwater in the future.M-EI
