POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER AND THE MILITARY

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) began to receive significant attention in the United States following the Vietnam War when experts reported that approximately 30 % of Vietnam veterans were afflicted. Recent estimates for Soldiers returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD symptoms run even higher. While the country continues efforts to find solutions and treatments for PTSD, a problem of utmost importance directly affecting our nation's security, the body of literature continues to grow. This revised and updated bibliography cites selected books, documents, articles, multimedia, and web sites for PTSD related topics such as diagnosis, prevention, training, treatment, reintegration, and family issues. A separate section also focuses on traumatic brain injury, the other signature injury experienced by military personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. With a few notable exceptions, the materials in this bibliography are dated 2008 to the present.
