Abstract

An experimental and analytical study of the structural behavior of cold-formed steel C-sections with web openings has been the focus of this research. C-shaped members with web openings are used in building construction as wall studs and floor joists. Industry standard C-sections were tested to determine the effect web openings have on the flexural strength of the member. The current design criteria for cold-formed steel, provided by the 1986 AISI Specification with the 1989 Addendum does not specifically address flexural members with web openings.
