The scope of this research work was the synthesis and characterization of pentacene derivatives and pentacene-related materials. The most important characterization method for the products formed in the present work has been X-ray crystallographic analysis. On the basis of this work, pentacene derivatives can be classified by generally observed solid-state arrangements, of which some are beneficial for the use in optoelectronic devices. The solid-state motifs are closely related to the substitution pattern of pentacene derivatives.
