This article stems from an aesthetic and semiotic study of Juliana Huxtable’s self-portraits as a nuwaubian princess in order to understand the stakes of the artistic use of the extraterrestrial’s figure in her work. From an analysis of the artworks and interviews of the artist, we esStablish that the extra-terrestrial self-portrait of Huxtable is, firstly, a philosophical and artistic exploration of the concept of race, considered as an abstract body, but also as a political affirmation tool, insofar as the nuwaubian creature appears as a metaphor for the otherness for the African-American artist.
