Physical examination revealed marked tender-ness over the symphysis pubis and left longus adductor muscle, and the patient was unable to adduct her left leg. Examination of the scar resulting from her surgery revealed normal healing, and the remaining results of examination were normal. Labora-tory evaluation revealed the following values: white blood cell (WBC) count, 6,900/mm 3, with 75 % segmented neutrophils; he-matocrit, 26%; and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, 93 mm/h. The glucose level was 106 mg/dL. Findings on a plain radio-graph of the pelvis were normal, and a bone scan with 99m tech-netium did not show abnormal uptake in pelvic bone. In the following days the patient remained afebrile, but the pain and inflammation in the pubic symphysis worsened. A compute
