We study the numerical solution of a two-dimensional steady convection-diffusion equation dis-cretised using the streamline upwind Petrov Galerkin finite element methodology. Classical block iterative algorithms and the block alternating group explicit iterative methods are used to solve the sparse linear system of equations. We reduce the size of the original problem by apply-ing the Strides of 3 (SR3) algorithm and the reduced system is solved by the block iterative meth-ods
