A new species of the anomuran Crustacea, Galathea maculiabdominalis, was taken from the coral reef of the Ryukyu Islands. It is closely related to Galathea formosa De Man, 1902, but differs from this in colouration, and having longer rostrum and indistinct cervical groove. From the Ryukyu Islands including the Amami Group 9 speices of the genus Galathea have been recorded so far (STIMPSON, 1858; 1907; M I Y A K E, 1953; MIYAKE & BABA, 1966). All of these known species are taken from crevices of reef rocks or among branching corals, and most of them are known to have a wide distribution in the Indo-West Pacific.
