This discussion paper presents the concept of using predictive indicators and data analytics to identify and prevent future construction accidents and injuries. All contractors in the United States employing more than 10 people are required to collect and report work related safety and health incidents to government agencies. Often this is the extent of the health and safety data collected. Industry may compile this data into spreadsheets to conduct minor analysis and reporting. Through a literature review and a sampling of contractors the findings suggests that a key gap exists in awareness, identification, and utilization of predictive indicators and minimal use of data analytics for predictive purposes.
