Moral Message of Heart of Darkness from the Point of View of Its Contemporary Adaptations

This bachelor thesis compares Joseph Conrad's famous novel Heart of Darkness to its movie adaptation Apocalypse Now and to its video game adaptation Spec Ops: The Line. It is mainly focused on thematic similarities, since both adaptations are loose and modernized versions of the original story. In analyzing primarily the theme of imperialism in each of the select works, the thesis uncovers the reasons for updating the settings and plot for the adaptations. It demonstrates how the theme of imperialism is presented to new audiences and the way in which each adaptation approaches the theme. The thesis studies each concerned work from an ethical standpoint
