Self care as a part of socialization by people with Down syndrome

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to describe abilities of self-care of people with Down syndrome and analyze its development. On the basis of the stated objective there are 3 research questions. The qualitative research techniques were used to achieve the goal of the bachelor thesis. Data for the case studies, which are in the practical part, were acquired through the semistructured interviews. Clients and educators who gave the information stay in Domov Kopretina Černovice. The theoretical part deals with Down syndrome, forms of Down syndrome, diagnostics, characteristic symptoms, the most frequent associated illneses and life of people with Down syndrome. Next chapter deals with definition of mental disabilities and socialization, especially self-care. The objective, research questions and methods of collecting qualitative research data is defined in the practical part. The practical part includes 3 case studies of clients from Domov Kopretina Černovice. Case studies have found that people with Down syndrome have the biggest problems in self-care with cooking and taking care of their health
