Burnout Syndrome in the Helping Professions

This thesis deals with the social phenomenon called burnout. It describes its definition, process and vulnerable groups. Special attention focuses on the relation between burnout and work in the helping professions, especially in social worker practice. The work also discusses possible ways of prevention and treatment. In the last section, it presents insight into the burnout from a Christian viewpoint.
