Swimming performance of applicants to physical education at Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in Prague in 1990-2010

Title: Swimming performance of applicants to physical education at Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in Prague in 1990-2010. Objectives: The aim is to evaluate the dynamics of changes in swimming performance of applicants to P.E. at Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University in the course of the number of registered applicants in 20 years (from 1990 to 2010). Second aim is to determine intersexual differences in the choice of swimming style during these years, and to make a comparison of the survey results with already published studies at other faculties in past years. Methods: The paper uses a document content analysis, a theoretical method of analysis and synthesis, a comparative method, and mathematical-statistical analysis. Results: Within the framework of P.E. entrance examinations, it was found out that in the years 1990 - 2010 the number of men rather than women applicants prevailed. During the monitored period, breast stroke for the 100-metre test was generarly preferred. Also, the swimming perfomance and level of all applicants to study at Charles University between 1990 and 2010 suffered slightly. The comparison of results at Charles University with the results of other faculties was hindered by diversity of methodological approaches. Keywords: university, entrance exam, aptitude..
