The Bachelor thesis deals with the development and changes of Balinese vernacular architecture in the 20th century. This thesis is supported by my own field research which was realized through semi- structured interviews. The main aim of this work is to objectively assess the extent to which during the last century the concept of a traditional architecture on the island of Bali has been distinguished from its original form. I focused not only to changes of construction but also in terms of religion and the relationship between human and his dwelling. For comparison, I have chosen four houses from different time periods.
