The development of universities in the Czech Republic and the funding of tertiary education

This thesis is divided into two parts. First part describes the development of universities in the Czech Republic after the year 1989. It focuses on private higher educational institutions whose establishment has been enabled by the Higher Education Act of 1998. Presently, there are 44 private universities in the Czech Republic and almost 40 thousands of students who study at those universities. The second part describes the economical character and financing of private universities according the legal form. It also deals with the promotional and marketing communications to potential students and the public. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the development of private universities in the Czech Republic and to compare financing options of private and public universities
