Regional differences at the Slovak-Hungarian border (with focus on tourism) Abstract The thesis investigates Slovak tourist regions lying on the border with Hungary. Localization and realization potential of these regions are analyzed and evaluated, regional differences are identified and proposal for further development in case of one region is also given. The thesis consists of three main parts. The first, theoretical part contains basic definitions and discussion concerning regional differences and tourism as a means of regional development. It is followed by the analysis and evaluation of the conditions for tourism in the studied regions. Conditions for localization, such as natural resources, cultural and historical attractions are investigated. Concerning realization potential, regions are compared with respect to their accommodation facilities and transport infrastructure. The third, practical part of the thesis focuses on establishing a picture of the current state of tourism in the region Gemer by interviewing several local people working in tourism and analysing its selection potential. Additionally, suggestions for possible future development are given. A summary of the obtained findings concludes the thesis. Keywords: regional differences, tourism, Slovak-Hungarian borderline, Geme
