Ethnic Conflict and International Organization: Conflicts in Bosnia and Kosovo

This bachelor thesis is focused on the role of international organizations in the new wars. Through the two conflicts of the nineties of 20th century it is focused on the question how the international community approached to the ethnic conflicts, on the disparity in approach and reasons for this change, the dependence on previous activity and "learning" out of it. First it is introduced the concept of new wars following the work of Mary Kaldor. In reflection of professional discussion the work focuses on the question whether ethnic conflicts in the former Yugoslavia can be productively analyzed by using this concept. Subsequently, the case study is drawn up. It is focused on how the UN and NATO approached to the conflict situations in both cases and also on the relation between these two organizations, especially attitude of NATO towards legitimizing options of the UN
