Media responses of Cowards by Josef Skvorecky in the 50th and 60th the th century

The bachelor thesis deals with the analytical evaluation of the critical reaction to Skvorecky's novel The Cowards in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century. These two decades have been specific by its political and social atmosphere. Characteristics of the 50s and 60s are different and therefore different specificities of the two decades are reflected in the critical reactions. In the first part the author focuses on the creation of a theoretical framework, which is then used as the basis for the analysis of reviews. In the first three chapters of the work she focuses on a biography of Josef Skvorecky (and how it was affected by edition of his debut novel), as well as the status of the novel in the context of Czech post-war literature. The important element in the analysis of reviews of The Cowards is primarily the context of the historical period and with it the changing societal values. Texts created on this basis have at one time denounced The Cowards and other time praised it as a modern and quality work. At the end, the author summarizes the facts affecting the formation and character of reviews. In light of the lessons learned then closes media analysis with a commentary
